Please note that this article only includes information about the application process for the Department of Human Services team. The link to the actual application is at the bottom of this page. SECTION #1: BACKGROUND INFORMATION We do our best to continually maintain a strong, consistent, informative, and fair staff team. We hold our staff to the highest standards around, and therefore we have a rigorous application process. We encourage all members to - at some point - apply to become a staff member if they meet the requirements listed below. This guide will walk you through the application process, benefits of being a staff member, and more. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, please PM @Otto Rosmarus (Walrus) with DOHS APP at the start of the title. We have a six tier structure (with multiple divisions) for our DoHS team (listed in descending order below). All successful applicants start off as a Junior Support Staff and with enough experience, can work their way up the ladder - we do our best to create and maintain a dynamic atmosphere for our staff, and we recognize and reward those who work hard. [currently unoccupied] Senior Support Staff Support Staff Junior Support Staff SECTION #2: REQUIREMENTS This section outlines the requirements applicants must meet before applying. Exemptions may be made at the discretion of the Department Head of Human Services (@Otto Rosmarus (Walrus)) on a case-by-case basis. The outcome of one DoHS application should never be precedent for another. Applicants must be at least 15 years old at the time of application submission. Applicants are not required to be current IGF members but must be active on our services. Applicants must be able to speak fluently and write coherently in English. Applicants must have a working microphone and have basic understanding of how to use Teamspeak. Applicants must be willing if able to dedicate some of their free time to perform their duties and assist players. Applicants must display positive work ethic and patience. We strive on promoting and maintaining a professional, friendly discourse with our players. SECTION #3: THE APPLICATION PROCESS Once the outlined requirements have been checked off, you are encouraged to submit an application (link at the bottom). We wish you the very best of luck. Once our team has received your application, we will notify you that it is under review. You can now sit back and wait. Our management team and other support staff members will deliberate and ultimately vote on whether you application should be approved or not. Once a verdict is reached, the Department Head of Human Services will contact you and notify you of the outcome. If approved, we will setup a meeting with you to conduct an interview. If your app is declined, it will be archived and you will not be able to submit an application until we reset the module. This is typically done once or twice per month. Please do not contact staff questioning when the module will be reset. SECTION #4: SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS ARE BRIEFLY INTERVIEWED If you are successful with the application, we will work with you to schedule a brief, informal interview to go over the application once more, get to know you better, and ask some questions. A panel of staff from your division and at least one member from the Management team will field a wide variety of questions to assess your understanding of our rules, roleplay, and more. These questions include rule interpretations, assessment of experience, possible IGR situations, roleplay scenarios, and more. Interviews can last upwards of thirty (30) minutes, so please prepare accordingly. Support Staff interviews are much more informal compared to either Developer or Administrative position interviews. SECTION #5: SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER Be yourself - don't pretend to be someone you're not, we seriously value honesty. If you're not successful, please do not take it personally. We are constantly working to ensure we have the strongest, fairest, most consistent staff team around, so standards are set very high. Participating in events, being engaged on the forums, and socializing is a great way to get noticed by a lot of people! Don't be shy, we're all friends here! We love it when people get involved! Prior support experience is NOT required, we can provide training to successful applicants. Referrals from active staff are by no means necessary. We aim to make IGF a second home for many. Our various servers have a comprehensive set of rules to help build the foundation for a experience, but much of it falls on you, the players. Sometimes, people push the limits, or engage in detrimental behaviors. This can range from overly toxic remarks, to breaking RP, to cheating, glitching, and more. This is not acceptable; however, while we maintain an active and engaged staff team, we may not always have staff online on some of our servers, so it is up to our awesome community to report rule infractions. We take player reports very seriously and each one is independently reviewed and verified by at least one senior staff member. We certainly do not encourage back-seat moderating or vigilantism, but a reasonable effort should be made by both parties to come to a resolution before a report is filed. Whether it be meeting up on Teamspeak to talk about it, PMing on Discord or the forums, etc; Options are available for you, it is up to you to use them. Please note that this is not mandatory by any means, but we encourage peaceful resolutions before coming to staff. FILING AN OFFICIAL REPORT Reporting a player on the forums is very straightforward, but it needs to be as detailed as possible. It is important to remember that all staff have to go off of is what you or someone else writes, so it is crucial that you be as detailed as possible. Video or picture evidence is not necessary in most cases, but it will make bringing a case against someone else significantly harder. If video evidence is available, we ask you to upload it and include it with your player report. We advise all players to record all gameplay while on our servers. It allows you to save memorable moments and, in an unfortunate event, have evidence in the off-chance you need to submit a compensation request or player report. EXAMPLE REASONS FOR FILING A REGULAR REPORT This is just some generic examples - by no means is this a full list. Reasons for filing reports are at the player's discretion, but may be approved or denied on a case-by-case basis. One report should never be precedent for filing another. Overly toxic remarks / general disrespect The user is clearly going out of their way in an attempt to create a toxic atmosphere. This could include flaming, excessive swearing, racist/sexist/homophobic/etc remarks, and more. Breaking rules or circumvention of rules This is pretty self-explanatory. If you're unsure whether a certain rule (or set of rules) was broken, consult a staff member (DoJ). Breaking RP/Fail RP/Poor conduct The user is engaging in behavior that is detrimental to the RP environment Impersonation of a staff member or IGF member + more. We will add more reasons as we get input (or examples) from you all. REPORTING STAFF Under no circumstance does the Community Management Team tolerate disrespectful behavior or actions by staff towards players. In the unfortunate event that you feel the need to report one of our staff members, do not use this form, and instead file a request to speak with a Governor form. All staff complaints are handled directly by the Board of Governors. LASTLY... So, what is an [IGF] Member & why would I want to be one? An IGF Member is an individual who has spent some time on our servers and wants to give back or participate in exclusive discussions, closed testing, and more. Our group of members is a tightly knit community of dedicated IGF players that helps builds the foundation we're built upon. These members know the ins and outs of the International Gamers Federation, and are a very helpful resource for those starting off with us. While it is, in essence, an invite-only group, they do their best to mingle with new players and form lasting bonds. Becoming an IGF Member is your gateway to being able to apply to become a member of our fantastic staff team. What's the difference between an [IGF] Member & a Senior [IGF] Member? Nothing significant. The reasoning for the Senior title is to pay tribute to members who have been with us for a long time or contributed in a variety of ways. The main idea surrounding the Senior Member rank is for those members to help new players get oriented and ensure they feel welcomed into the community. That's not to say our regular members or other players will not do that (we hope they do! ), but it allows new players to find people who aren't necessarily staff (we argue some people may hesitate to go to staff for questions) who have significant experience and insight into IGF. Senior Member titles are given out by the Management Team. How do I apply to become an [IGF] Member? It's a pretty straight-forward process to become a member, you need to complete just two steps: All applicants must have an active, current [IGF] Member 'refer' you - that is, they go and throw their support behind you. They believe you'd be a good fit in our group. If you apply and do not have a referral, it will be closed. Once you've gotten a referral, you can submit your application here. There is no interview, just a 5-10 minute application. Once you've submitted your application, it will become visible to our current members, and they will be able to discuss and vote on your application. I've been referred and have applied, what now? Nothing! You can sit back and relax while our current members discuss and vote on whether they believe you are a good fit for the group. After all, many of our members go on to become staff and represent the International Gamers Federation in the public domain. Applications are typically discussed and voted on for a few days after your submission. Once discussion starts to drop off, a member of our Management Team will count the votes, make a last call, and approve or deny the applications. If your application is approved, you'll receive a congratulations and welcome PM and be given [IGF] Member tags on our forums, Teamspeak, and Discord. This will enable you to view/enter the member only chat/voip channels, and participate in member-only discussion. If your application is denied, you will be notified by the management member that delivered the verdict, and you'll be welcomed to re-apply two weeks following your submission. You can re-apply as many times as you'd like, as long as you wait two weeks between each submission. Each application will be moved to archives visible to all IGF members once it has been closed - regardless of whether it has been approved or deny. Some quick notes: It is recommended that you do not go fishing for referrals. If you form a special bond with a member, it will come naturally - if not, drop a few hints Openly asking random members for a referral may work, but it is more likely to reflect negatively on your application. Participating in events, being engaged on the forums, and socializing is a great way to get noticed by a lot of members! Don't be shy!
